PROFILE OF THE
PRESIDENT
Hiromi Yamamoto
In 1963, at age 19, he established West Japan Crushed Sand later to
be renamed as the current SANDO Co., Ltd.
In May 1993, he applied for a patent on technology used in scraping
off sharp corners from ocean sand. Since then, he has been engaged
in research on recycling and processing industrial waste.
He holds a number of patents on products made from recycled industrial
waste, including aggregate for use in concrete, and heat insulating
materials. He also has several other patents pending. |
I entered the stone-quarrying industry and began manufacturing
concrete about 40 years ago. In those days, the entire country was
in the midst of a period of dynamic economic growth. The emphasis
was on manufacturing, and the careless and wasteful use of wood, concrete
and other construction materials was rampant. Now, as many of the
buildings constructed in those days are nearing the end of their usable
lives, we unavoidably find ourselves confronted with a tremendous
amount of industrial waste and the heavy burden it is placing on the
environment.
I must admit that I am one of those responsible for the damage to
the environment. I was long engaged in cutting through mountains to
quarry for stone and saw the destructive impact this had on the environment.
Even so, it was easy to see there was a limit to the quantity of natural
resources available. Looming large as a very real possibility was
actually running out of natural resources and not being prepared to
begin recycling. Then I began looking for ways to recycle industrial
waste because I knew that what there was of it represented a potential
treasure trove.
The development of our new recycling technology has also convinced
us at E&P Company, Limited that recycling should be Òcomplete
recycling.Ó It must be recycling in which nothing recycled produces
a new kind of industrial waste. Effectively used, industrial waste
becomes transformed into a value-added resource for the manufacture
of new products with durability and lower prices. With so much treasure
in the environment, the time for complete recycling has come. E&P
Company, Limited urges the community to take advantage of the recycling
process we have developed. |
